As the environment is reflected in our national curriculum statements, and whereas educators often need more information on these environmental matters, the centre offers resources and opportunities to support educators in this regard:
1) Workshops for educators to bring out the environment in their
learning areas
2) Resource Centre
The centre is building up resources for educators to use in their learning programmes. We keep Sharenet Resources, Enviro facts sheets and a wide range of books that educators can come and make copies of.
3) Support schools that participate in the Bontle ke Botho Clean Schools Campaign.
The Bontle ke Botho clean schools campaign is a project spearheaded by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Environment in conjunction with the Gauteng Department of Education and local authorities. It encourages sustainable environments based on the Johannesburg Plan of Iimplementation.
We offer workshops for schools to be able to write their management plans.
4) Eco Schools
The Eco-Schools (www.echoschools.co.za) programme is being implemented in South Africa as a schools improvement programme that aims at achieving sustainable environmental management. The programme is designed to encourage whole-school development and action for a healthy environment.
In the Tshwane South District there are already a few schools that fly the green flag and more are still to come. The centre supports this programme as it is an excellent tool to support schools in implementing environment in the currciulum.
5) Schools Environmental Education Development (SEED)
SEED (www.seed.org.za) is a Non Profit Organisation that works to integrate Permaculture into teaching practice. This is accomplished through teacher mentoring and support, resource development and on ground permaculture implementation.

6) Permaculture
Permaculture can be defined as a design system for constructing sustainable human settlements and the development of agriculturally productive ecosystems, which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems.
