   Water Room:
The sounds of clean water are heard as they cascade over the rocks. A hippo adds his call to the beautiful sounds as the little fish swim in between the reeds. A crocodile’s shadow is seen overhead. The little insects are busy feeding in the shallows of the river. They must be careful of the heron that is on the hunt. A fish eagle swoops down from on high and catches an unsuspecting fish. It feels as if one is inside a freshwater river. No you are in the Water Wise Room at the JNF Walter Sisulu Environmental Centre in Mamelodi."
The Water Wise Room at the centre was constructed with funding from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund. Rand Water has donated the fittings, furniture and the educational content. Rand Water has a Water Wise Education Team responsible for developing the educational programs in Gauteng Province. One of the venues is our centre.
Only one percent of the fresh water from the earth is suitable for drinking. People are becoming more, so the water available per person will become less.
Activities in this room educate learners to be more water wise, by using water wise principles. Why don’t you come and experience the hands-on Water Wise activities at the Centre.
We offer four programs in the water room:
All these programs are applicable to the Natural Sciences and Human and Social Sciences Learning Areas
